But this statement of mine, this WHY that I repeat when I get the opportunity to talk to women is more powerful than just being a retreat promo. And it keeps gaining power because the belief gets continuously affirmed by so many amazing women out there who remind me constantly just how true it is! Women are powerful—especially when we recognize the strength we have in numbers! I made an incredibly scary decision recently. I chose to leave a long-term, stable position to pursue unpredictable work that honors me, challenges me to be my best self, and helps me to create a life I love. Since I made this choice, the women around me have lifted me, encouraged me, inspired me, given generously to me, and brought out in me the passion to share my vision. A vision of a world where women live authentically within their values, do work they’re passionate about, and embrace the self-nurturing practices that best support them so they can feel confident to share their much-needed gifts with the world!
It started with women who were already my friends and sisters. (Some of them are literally my sisters!) Incredible women who have generously supported me even when I felt unable to reciprocate because I gave my all to my draining and disempowering career. I had very little time left over for my own children, let alone my friends, and I was always turning down invitations to come nurture the sisterhood—yet these women never gave up on me. And when I called it quits on that other life, they championed me in a way I felt completely unworthy of receiving, and the bonds between us immediately became stronger! It was these women who inspired the whole retreat concept. Women who do work they’re passionate about and want to share their gifts with the world, supporting each other in pursuit of bliss! And other women get it! They’re signing on to this movement! It’s important and humbling to realize this isn’t just my vision. I share it with so many strong women who understand that it’s going to take many more of us embracing our power and sharing our gifts to create an enlightened and sustainable society. It’s powerful stuff, man—or should I say woman!
The entrepreneurial genius, Seth Godin, does a wonderful presentation on tribes. He says we all need to figure out what we’re passionate about and then start a tribe. Become a leader. The world needs more leaders, and tribes with shared visions are what change the world—for better or worse. I want to invite women into this tribe—a tribe of strong, passionate, dedicated women committed to one another’s vision of success! When I say such things, I hear in my head the words of my dear, inspirational friend Heather Bauer who is passionate about her art, her hero, the bee, and her medium, the bee’s wax, “Testify sister!”
I’ll see you at the retreat, Heather!
